Hot summer days spent at the lake or in the garden will cause some extra sweating. You can replenish those lost electrolytes with homemade drinks quite easily with typical household ingredients. No neon coloring needed! Homemade electrolyte drink recipes include a variety of electrolytes, including magnesium, calcium, and more that can help your body in various ways. For example, magnesium helps with energy production, heart rhythm, and muscles, to start. Calcium is great for bones, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels, among other body parts. Lastly, phosphorus regulates nerves and muscles, helps your bones and teeth, and contributes to several other bodily functions.

Basic Electrolyte Drink

1 1/2 – 2 cups water
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/8 – 1/2 tsp. real sea salt (Himalayan or Celtic)
2 tsp raw honey (local if possible)

Put all ingredients into a jar with a lid and shake well to combine. This recipe fits perfectly in a pint mason jar! Store in the fridge for up to a week.

You can play around with your favorite citrus and substitute lime, oranges, or grapefruit. Use coconut water instead of water and add pureed fruit such as mango, watermelon, strawberry, cucumber or anything else that you find delicious, to increase minerals. Don’t forget a sprig of fresh mint!
